Recently we saw a change in the cigar size trend. Double Toro, Gordo,
Gigante, Sixty – call those the way you want – big ring gauges are the new
big thing. 60-ring….and beyond….are appearing up in virtually every cigar
line and they’re selling like crazy.
We have our Alec Bradley Black Market Gordo for a week that our box is almost finished just by sticks sales.
You would think it’s an obvious
choice. Substantially more tobacco, marginally more expensive. It’s originally part
of the American mindset that bigger is better, and often it is. But in
the case of cigars, bigger isn’t necessarily better, just different.
Big
ring cigars do offer some real benefits. They naturally burn longer;
they burn much cooler, and pump out volumes of thick smoke. You can puff
on a 60-ring until your face turn blue and it probably won’t burn
hot or harsh. And then there’s the whole ‘best bang for your buck’
thing. Pound for pound, or weight vs. cost, big ring cigars are usually
the best buy. But tobacco doesn’t work that way. Filler tobaccos are
significantly less expensive than the wrapper, which is why smaller ring
and bigger ring cigars, despite their size difference, maintain a
somewhat similar price. They both utilize a comparable amount of wrapper
leaf. Leading to my next point; smaller ring cigars have a much more
favorable wrapper to filler ratio. So the big ring will have a lesser overall quality of leaf as it is mostly constituted of filler. Maybe one of the reason for the Cohiba Panatela (4 ½ x 26) to be so pricey.
We do offer a few 60 x 6 which is starting to be a great seller
1) Zino Platinum Barrel Tubos - $448 / stick
2) Alec Bradley Black Market Gordo - $150 / stick
3) Padron Series 7000 - $177 / stick
I looked around the web to find out the extreme and i discovered that cigar maker were enough crazy to come up with a 133 1/3 x 10. It is called the CroMagnon Femur by RoMa Craft Tobac.
This is what i call a Jawbreaker, you maybe able to get it in your mouth but not sure you will be able to remove it without tearing it apart.
Their First "draft" was an astonishing 500 x 10, then they reduced to 215 x 10 before they settle to the current size.Only
200 were made as it was very hard for them to find 200 suitable wrapper
leaves for these cigars. Price is USD 50 / stick (US market where a
high end cigar is around USD20)
So if you want to know what is all this fuzz about, then come to The Wall of Cigar to try our Padron 7000 or Alec Bradley Black Market Gordo !
